Emily in Paris just launched season 4, part 2 and has left fans wondering which visa Emily is actually on that allows her to stay and work in Paris for that long. With the new season’s ambiguity on whether or not Emily will be returning to Paris or working from Rome, which visa is Emily actually on? Lucky for you, Udaan India has all the answers!

Emily is not an illegal immigrant working in Paris. In season 3, Sylvie (Emily’s boss) informs Emily that she is filling out her work visa application and that she needs to prove that she is an exceptional employee who can do a job that no other French person can do.

Udaan India has researched for you! Emily was initially sent to Paris on an Inter-company Transfer (ICT) visa. This visa is valid for 3 years and the foreign company sends the employee for a specific mission. The employee has to be employed with the non-french company for at least 6 months and has to remain on a foreign contract. The US company would have done a SIPSI declaration - this is necessary for employers located outside of France who wish to provide a service on French soil.

Emily gets paid her normal U.S. salary and would need to get private healthcare in France. However, this visa would be only valid for 3 years. After 3 years, Emily will have to go back. She can reapply for this visa but would have to wait for 6 months.

Alternatively, Emily could also be on a “Passeport Talent Salarié en Mission” visa which is similar to ICT except that the employee will have to be on a local French contract. The employee must have a master's degree or 5+ years of professional experience - which is unclear at the start of the show. Therefore, ICT is more explainable.

Hopefully, this helps you understand which visa Emily from Emily in Paris is on! Count on Udaan India to always tell you everything about visas.
